The last recorded words of Jesus as He ascended into Heaven are found in Matthew 28:19-20 and is called The Great Commission.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Holly Brook Baptist Church believes that being a part of the Southern Baptist Convention and the Baptist General Convention of Texas gives us the opportunity to fulfill this Great Commission.

A portion of all the monies given to the church is given to the Cooperative Program, the Harmony/Pittsburg Association, Local Missions & Ministry Projects, the Baptist Student Ministry, Texas Baptist Men, and the Obadiah Project (helping children along the Texas/Mexico border).

The Cooperative Program which is the financial fuel for reaching every person for Jesus Christ in every town, every city, every state, and every nation.  It is SBC-affiliated churches giving to a single fund so that the gospel can be spread where we can not reach alone.

The Southern Baptist Convention uses our monies collected through the Cooperative Program to support missionaries both in North American and throughout the world. (

The Baptist General Convention of Texas also receives a portion of our Cooperative Program monies to support Texas missionaries and works with other Human Care Ministries within the state. (

Harmony-Pittsburg Baptist Association connects the churches in the local counties (example: Wood, Upshur) to help share the love of Jesus.  One of the ways we are locally connected is being actively involved in the Association’s Texas Baptist Men chainsaw and flood/fire recovery units. (

We also participate in the 3 special mission offerings throughout the year whose monies goes only to the missionaries serving on the field:

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering – supports International Missionaries (November/December)

Annie Armstrong Mission Offering – supports North American Missionaries (March/April)

Mary Hill David Offering – supports Texas missions (August/September)

HBBC is also involved in missions at the local level.

We have several men and women that are active in the Texas Baptist Men. ( They serve on the chainsaw untis, flood/fire recovery units, feeding team units, and IMT.  If interested, please contact Bruce Slaven through the church office.

We try to make all our different monthly meeting groups incorporate missions into their time.  For example, our stitchers group sew ministry items: quilts for the homeless shelter, diapers for African orphanage, stuffed bears for different children ministries to name just a few.  Our art group creates cards for the church to send and have different outreach projects during the year.   Our Women on Mission group leads in the mission education of the church and work on projects to support different mission opportunities of the church.

We reach out to the community’s children and youth by sponsoring, water fun days, Fall Festival, Easter Egg Hunts, Awana’s, youth camps, basketball, football, and cheerleading camps, and a bus ministry to pick up the children and youth in Hawkins for our regular Sunday and Wednesday night activities.

We are currently planning a church-wide mission trip to New Orleans on June 26- July 1.  More details will follow within the next few weeks.

Come join us.  Get involved in Missions at HBBC!
